Why does the devil always tempt teenagers and how do we overcome these temptations?

Actually, the devil is always tempting everyone – no one on earth is exempt, not even the saints, not even Jesus Himself! You might remember that the devil tempted Him out in the wilderness too. The devil’s existence is miserable, so he doesn’t want anyone else to be happy. So he tempts us to make us fall into sin, be separated from God and become as miserable as he is. But God has other plans…

Perhaps teenagers feel the burden of temptation more because they are at a stage of life where so many changes are happening. Teenage years are stressful enough with all the body, mind and emotional changes, so your typical teenager feels “why doesn’t the devil just leave me to my misery for a while! Does he have to make it even harder? But there is hope:

1. You’re not the first to go through this – millions of others have survived!
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man 1 Corinthians 10:13

2. God gives extra grace and strength when you need it most.
“But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

3. You are not alone! God is on your side.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13

4. God turns our weakness into His strength.
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

5. Hang in there - it’s not going to last forever!
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9

Finally, stay close to your Confession Father and follow his advice carefully. Surround yourself with a good environment – good friends, good TV and other media, good decorations in your room – make it as hard as possible for you to sin.

God loves you very much and He feels your anxieties and fears with you. When you look up at His face with your guilty tear-stained eyes you will only find His own eyes shining with tears of love for you. God loves you very much – never forget it!
